At the risk of sounding like everyone else, it is hard to believe that another year has passed. Yes, it's 2012 and I'm about a month away from turning 32. It's January 4 and I'm sitting in my apartment waiting for a load of laundry to come out of the dryer before I sit out on my balcony to read a book and enjoy the fact that it is 83 degrees and sunny. On January 4!
Again, at the risk of sounding like everyone else, I've taken up some New Years Resolutions. Other than writing To Do Lists, I'm rather certain that drafting New Years Resolutions is one of my favorite things to do. Because New Years Resolutions are To Do Lists, really, right? I'm normally pretty good at New Years Resolutions. Back in 2004, I resolved to eat 5 Servings a Vegetables a Day, and this task is certainly a way of life for me now. Back in 2007, I resolved to live a Year of Yes, on which I can happily elaborate by posting my UCLA Anderson application essays. In 2010 I resolved to have an amazing wedding, and in 2011 I resolved to leave my job to spend a summer volunteering in Africa prior to enrolling in graduate school. (Check. Check, check, and check.) So what's in store for 2012?
I don't really have a single, solid resolution this time around. It's definitely more of a To Do List of athletic and personal goals for the year. After ten years of running, I'm going to take some time off from training for big races. Instead, I'm resolving to ride my bike more, and perhaps sign up for a century ride. I'm definitely planning to take up a regular yoga practice, though. There are so many great studios in our neighborhood, and I have always treasured the time I regularly practiced Bikram in San Francisco...
On a more personal level, I'm resolving to send birthday cards to family members. And I'm resolving to explore more of Los Angeles now that I've had a few months to settle into our new hometown. Comedy clubs. (Did I mention I saw Sarah Silverman and Jeff Garlin a few weeks ago for only $25!?!?) West Hollywood. Griffith Park. The Getty. I really love living in Los Angeles, so it is time to begin soaking more of it in.
And as a team, Jeremy and I have agreed upon some resolutions, as well. Probably the most exciting ones! We are resolving to save more money. (OK, that one is boring.) But also to start a family. We are hoping for a little human sometime in 2012. However, by the end of the year, if we do not have a human, we will definitely have a puppy. Ideally, we'll have both!
2012 - Karibu. Bienvenue. Benvenido. Welcome. I'm glad you've arrived.
